Development of the hydrogen and CO₂ grids in the Port of Antwerp

In the Port of Antwerp, we collaborate with partners on various projects to lay pipelines that facilitate the energy transition for the existing industry and other economic activities.

Hydrogen (H2)

One of our key initiatives is the construction of a hydrogen pipeline network that connects the industry in the port with the production and supply of hydrogen. This infrastructure for the distribution and supply of hydrogen supports the development of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges as a leading industrial hub in Europe with easy access to renewable and low-carbon energy and feedstock.

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

We are also working on a network for the transport of CO2 to help the industry in and around the Port of Antwerp become more sustainable in close cooperation with our partners Pipelink and Air Liquide. The pipelines to transport CO2 for permanent storage or reuse are an essential step to reduce CO2 emissions and secure industrial activities and employment in the entire region around Antwerp.

Support

These projects are an important part of European, federal, and regional initiatives, and their support makes it possible to build the infrastructure for decarbonisation in the Port of Antwerp.

Future vision

With our pipeline works in the Port of Antwerp, we are taking the first step in Belgium towards the development of open-access networks for hydrogen and CO2. In line with market development, we will gradually expand the infrastructure in the coming years.
