Adjustment to INT's Capacity Classification
Since Sept 2021, Interconnector has seen very strong and sustained UK – Belgium flows, as Europe sought to address the challenge of Russian gas curtailment following the war in Ukraine. To be able to perform essential operational and preventive maintenance tasks in such an operating environment, and with INT’s focus on safe and reliable operations, we had previously adjusted our capacity classification to 85% Firm and 15% Interruptible for Gas Year 2022/23. This capacity is currently fully contracted for the remainder of Summer 2023.
Looking ahead, we see that the high utilisation rates are likely to continue. This higher utilisation leads to additional maintenance requirements and equipment needs to be serviced according to a specified schedule based on running hours.
Therefore, as a Reasonable and Prudent Operator, INT is classifying 66% of the Technical Capacity in both flow directions as Firm, and 34% as Interruptible in order to continue operating and maintaining the Interconnector in a safe and reliable way.
There is no change to the Technical Capacity of the Interconnector; INT will continue to market 100% of the Technical Capacity and in normal circumstances the full 100% will remain available for flow.
We will keep this capacity classification under review, throughout the year and for the following years.
