New MoU paves the way for hydrogen supply chain in Central Europe

A recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between FluxSwiss, Transitgas, OGE, Fluxys TENP and Snam, marks a significant step towards enhancing hydrogen supply in Central Europe, particularly in Baden-Württemberg in Germany and north-western Italy.

The MoU facilitates cooperation among the parties to ensure technical and operational compatibility. This includes assessing necessary modifications to the infrastructure and aligning the timelines for ramp-up of H₂ and commissioning.

The partnership aims to create an additional hydrogen supply source by leveraging the existing transit pipeline infrastructure.

The intended infrastructure will cross the Alps connecting Italy to Germany via Switzerland, facilitating imports from North Africa. The route will enhance access to hydrogen markets, support decarbonisation goals and diversification of supply routes.

About OGE

With a pipeline network of around 12,000 kilometres in length, OGE is an integral part of the German and European energy supply and one of Europe’s leading gas transmission system operators. OGE plays a key role in shaping tomorrow’s hydrogen infrastructure, already implementing initial projects for the H₂ core network.
