Fluxys LNG - Earlier completion of three additional ORVs deployment
We aim to be climate-neutral by 2050. The first step is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% (compared to 2017) by 2025 and by 67% by 2030. To achieve this, several initiatives are underway within our company to minimize methane and CO2 emissions as much as possible.
This is particularly the case at our LNG terminal in Zeebrugge, where the success of our activities and the high demand for regasification have led to an increase in CO2 emissions due to the use of conventional natural gas-powered regasifiers. Thanks to Open Rack Vaporizers (ORVs), which use seawater heat to regasify LNG, we no longer need to rely solely on these conventional systems, allowing us to reduce the energy consumption and consequently the CO2 emissions of our LNG terminal.
Since 2013, our LNG terminal in Zeebrugge has had one ORV, but its capacity was insufficient to meet heat demand during high demand periods. In the fall of 2023, three additional ORVs were commissioned to increase regasification capacity and further reduce reliance on our conventional systems. The final stage of deployment of the ORVs was scheduled for the beginning of 2026 and would also allow us to increase our regasification capacity by an additional 2.3 GWh/h . Thanks to the efforts of our technical teams we can commission this final phase as of January 1, 2025.
